This course is designed to examine theories and processes related to language and literacy development, and the implications of these theories and processes for curriculum and instruction, it focuses on the stages of literacy acquisition.
Language and Literacy Timeline

In the class EDU206 we made a Language and Literacy Timeline. This was one of our first assignments and we had to analyze a developmental sequence that we could pick. The three areas of development we could pick were Oral language development, reading development, or second language acquisition. After picking we did research and then used that to create a timeline. I looked into learning about stages of oral language development. I was curious about this because we spend a lot of time in class learning about reading and writing development and I wanted to know more about how oral language fits into it. I learned that there were 6 main stages starting from 0 and going to 30+ months. I went in-depth about each of the stages and then gave a brief overview of what oral language development was.
This project helped me become a better teacher because I learned alot about how kids develop. Even though I want to teach older students, it’s so important to have an understanding of how kids develop and learn. This is why I placed this project under standard 1 of learner development. Students start learning well before they start school and that’s really important to remember when planning lessons.
