In EDU206 one of our most significant projects this semester was doing an interprofessional simulation to practice playing the role of a teacher. We had to collaborate with a social worker and an OT major to meet with an actor playing a parent. We were given background information about the “Student” and needed to use what we learned in class to work with our interprofessional teams to make a plan to best fit the needs of the “student” both in and out of the classroom. During the simulation, we had to hear the parent’s concerns for the student and connect those to what we were seeing within the classroom, and formula a plan with the parent. After the simulation was over we reflected on the actor playing the parent and also with our teams.

This project demonstrates collaboration because we had to work with a team of 2-3 other students to formulate a plan for the student. The team was composed of different majors so they all brought a different perspective based on what they were studying (OT and Social Work). This was great practice because when I become a teacher I’ll need to use the same skills I did in this project to collaborate effectively and make sure everyone is being heard and on the same page so we can best help the student.
